How To "Getaway" At Home

As a working mom of boys, I sometimes find myself in need of a getaway from the day-to-day grind. Prior to the pandemic, knowing I had multiple trips lined up helped me to get through the day-to-day grind, but for obvious pandemic-related reasons, we can no longer rely on that. So, how do we safely get away now? First, the getaway starts by giving ourselves permission. I honestly think that our biggest hurdle as moms is allowing ourselves to step away. Once we resolve that battle in our minds and in our feelings, then we're in good shape.

✔️Taking neighborhood walks has become a favorite activity that I could treat as a "getaway" by taking different paths each time. Just like a vacation, you can choose to do this solo, as a couple or as a family. As moms, we generally know which one is needed at the right time. Of course, while this can be a family activity, the point of this discussion is to allow yourself permission to step away from the children, so arrange for a trusted adult to care for them while you take some time for you.

✔️Another way to treat yourself to a "getaway" is to arrange for your husband/the children’s dad, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or another trusted adult to keep the children for a day while you basically do what you please. Listen, we cannot be with these children all day, every day, without help, and still be at 100% mama! This breathing room is essential to our wellbeing. I suggest a luxurious bath/shower, facial steamer, favorite foods, TV shows/movies, and wine or whatever drink is your fave!

✔️Mama, if an actual trip away is what you need to reset your mind, I am not going to attempt to stop you from doing that. Just be sure to check all the testing, quarantining, and additional travel requirements that you'll need to comply with and be vigilant about hygiene as we should always be.

Which of these 3 options do you give yourself permission to do?
